On May 29, our Grade 4 students proudly shared their inquiry into the central idea:
"Human migration is a response to challenges, risks, and opportunities."
Through detailed Case Studies and an incredible interactive "Living Wax Museum," students truly brought history to life! They explored the many reasons why people migrate, examining how migration has shaped societies throughout history and continues to influence communities around the world today. By investigating personal stories and contemporary global issues, our young learners gained a deeper understanding of the complex decisions individuals and families make when seeking safety, stability, education, or new opportunities. 🧭
Louis chose Ludwig van Beethoven as the migrant figure. He did a fantastic job portraying Beethoven's move from Bonn to Vienna to pursue his musical career, and he wants to express that migrating to a new place can provide the opportunities and environment needed to share one's true talents with the world.
Lucas chose Shohei Ohtani as the migrant figure. He did a wonderful job explaining Ohtani's journey from Japan to the USA to compete at the highest level of baseball, and he wants to express that people often migrate to challenge themselves, face new risks, and reach their highest potential.
Jacob chose Albert Einstein as the migrant figure. He did an engaging presentation on how Einstein had to leave his home country and move to the United States due to conflict, and he wants to express that migration is sometimes a necessary risk to find safety, freedom, and the chance to continue one's life work.
As they explored these journeys, students developed deep empathy for the experiences of migrants and recognized the immense resilience required to adapt to new environments. They also examined how migration contributes to cultural diversity, economic development, and social change. This inquiry encouraged our students to consider multiple perspectives, appreciate the interconnected nature of our global society, and reflect on the responsibilities that come with being informed and compassionate global citizens. We are incredibly proud of their hard work, confidence, and creativity! ✨
